Burlington has announced it will be opening its new store in the Tinley Park Plaza on Friday, Sept. 17

The retailer has the date posted on its website as it prepares to move from its longtime home at 7061 W. 159th St. (next door to Hobby Lobby) to newer, smaller digs just around the corner in the new part of Tinley Park Plaza, which is being remodeled by owner Brixmor.

Burlington moved into its current home after Kmart moved out in 1995 and into a new home at 16300 S. Harlem Ave. That site closed a few years ago and is going to be turned into a warehouse for Pete’s Fresh Market.

Burlington operates five other south suburban stores in Matteson, Crestwood, Evergreen Park, Lansing, and Burbank, as well as locations in North Riverside and Joliet.

Burlington’s business neighbor, Hobby Lobby, is expected to remain in its half of the former Kmart.

The Burlington space is not expected to be empty for long as Tinley officials have said a Floor & Décor store will be taking over the space.

Atlanta-based Floor & Decor is a specialty retailer of hard surface flooring, offering tile, wood, stone, related tools and flooring accessories. The company was founded in 2000. It has eight Chicago-area locations, but the Tinley store would be its first in the south suburbs. The closest store is in southwest suburban Countryside.

Village officials have said Floor & Décor is expected to bring more than 100 full-time jobs when it moves into the 70,000-square-foot space.

In addition to Burlington, a new grocery store is moving into the redeveloped Tinley Park Plaza. There has been no official announcement on which grocer is going to be the new tenant.

Another new tenant in the redeveloped plaza will be Phenix Salon Suites.
